This release of Spin Doctor is an embarrassing POS - and it's the only reason I bought Toast in the first place! I don't even want to open it again for fear it will corrupt all of my music and my OS.Your experience with Spin Doctor is more extreme than mine.
For me, Spin Doctor will capture an audio stream from the Mac's audio input or open an existing audio file. I can mark tracks, apply filters and export to Toast. Nearly everything else doesn't work. As for playing tracks, I found that double clicking on the track starts playback at the beginning. The playhead doesn't move until you press the space bar to pause the playback.
Pressing the space bar again restarts the playback and the playhead moves. I agree that Spin Doctor is embarrassing. However, I'm not afraid to open and use it for these limited functions.

I'm usually biting on my tongue whenever I write a post about Spin Doctor so I don't embellish my remarks. Your judgements seem perfectly reasonable to me. Haven't yet tried the toast 11 side of the application, but just to notify and please correct me if I'm wrong, but the cd spin doctor will crash mountain lion. I was told by Roxio tech support that it is incompatible with mountain lion and their developers have no plans as yet for an update. Moreover, apple states that if your machine came preloaded with mountain lion, you cannot downgrade to lion or leopard due to a software, firmware, hardware conflict.
Mountain Lion has been out for 6 months, time for Roxio to get their thumbs out and produce an update or even just a new version of toast/cdspindoctor. I buy an updated version if it is available. I buy an updated version if it is available. This is curious. Spin Doctor X (Roxio replaced CD Spin Doctor with Spin Doctor X in Toast 11) works for me in Mountain Lion the same as it did in Lion and Snow Leopard, which means only a few of its functions work at all.
It doesn't crash when opened. However, it does crash if it encounters a conflicting VST plugin in the rootLibraryAudioPluginsVST folder. For instance I found a conflict with a plugin from Bias-inc. I suggest going to that folder and moving any VST plugins to somewhere else. Then try launching Spin Doctor. If that works you should get the opportunity to download the Spin Doctor update.
You can drag plugins back to that folder until you find the one(s) that are causing the crash. It is true that Spin Doctor is not officially supported in Mountain Lion and it may be that it is unable to capture online audio streams. But it should be able to capture line input audio, mark tracks, apply filters and send them to Toast.
I am baffled. The support page does not appear to have the complete Toast 11.1 Standard Package, only an update. And the update is rev 1067, with no sign of 1072. Has Roxio rolled back to an earlier support page?I'm deeply annoyed with Toast at the moment.
After 'upgrading' from 11.0.4 to 11.1 (and I can't remember how I managed this as the software update link in the application didn't work properly), I found myself unable to use the application for writing DVDs, which is mainly what I use (or rather used) it for. I was getting a mysterious message: Sense key = MEDIUM ERROR / code = 0x73, 0x03. Basically, disks from a manufacturer and box which previously were fine no longer worked with Toast. And every time this problem happened, Toast mangled the DVD. I must have wasted 5 or more before I finally gave up. On advice from Apple, I just burned DVDs directly from the Finder.I've now tracked down my original copy of 11.0.4 and was thinking of rolling back to it. But now I'm about to upgrade to Mountain Lion, and believe that Toast won't be compatible anyway. So I'm wondering where the famous 11.1 (1072) upgrade might be.

I have Spin Doctor X on a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. I purchased the Toast 11 about a month ago and am having troubles in defining tracks. I can click an drag to create a track on captured or opened media just fine.

Is this one of the messed up issues of Spin Doctor X or is there some work around for this so the track duration matches what I have marked?Spin Doctor X does not send correct tracks to iTunes. But it should send them to Toast. You are using 1.0.1, correct? If you want the tracks in iTunes you need to send them to Toast, choose Save as Disc Image, switch to the Audio Files setting in the Convert window, add the saved.sd2f file and now send to iTunes from Toast. I'll double check if there is something that needs to be done to get the tracks correctly to Toast. I know I've done it but maybe I had a special way to do it.Make sure Toast is open before sending the tracks from Spin Doctor.
Also check to see if any of the track in Toast happen to be the entire length of the recording. If so, delete it.Oh my. I just did some trials and it's not working. If you look at what Spin Doctor says is the track duration it will be nothing close to the actual duration. I can't seem to do anything to work around this.
Spin Doctor is also crashing when it sends the tracks to Toast. This is with OS 10.8.2. I'll try it on a different Mac tomorrow.
I suggest you get Final Vinyl for marking tracks instead.Addendum: I did another trial on a Mac running OS 10.7.x and the track marking doesn't work there, either. This makes Spin Doctor X useless. Do you know if Roxio has posted a full-installion disk image of the latest version of Toast 11 Pro (similar to the link you posted above for the standard version)?
I'm about to embark on a clean installation on a new computer, and don't want to install older, probably unstable, versions and struggle with running patch updaters. No they haven't. In fact, I doubt the currently shipping Toast 11 Pro installer includes current versions of many of the Pro-extras. Roxio doesn't even mention the updates that are available by going to those developer's sites. There is no change in the Blu-ray plugin. Some of the third-party apps can be downloaded straight from the developer rather than use the Toast-bundled installer and then registered using the keys furnished by Roxio. You might first check if your Fotomagico and Photoshop Elements apps need to first be deauthorized before being available for registration again. Edited March 29, 2013 by tsantee.
I see the post before mine was posted january 13th.kinda answers my question.not good. This is a users group forum so nobody here is communicating with Roxio or Corel; just one another. As for the problems you're experiencing, these are uncommon and suggest there is something amiss on your Mac. I suggest using Disk Utility to repair permissions. If you have Disk Warrior it may be a good time to use it. Toast's plist and prefs files are easily corrupted so it may help to trash those in your UserLibraryPreferences folder and relaunch Toast. I find Toast 11.1 (1072) to be very good so updating isn't a bad choice. However, make a duplicate copy of 11.0.4 so you still have that available after the update just in case.Corel does have a forum moderator but that person is only overseeing that the forum's rules are being followed.
As far as I know the moderator doesn't have a Mac, much less be able to resolve issues with Toast. There is a link in a pinned post in this forum where users can submit bug reports and feature requests. Otherwise they need to contact Corel's customer support to communicate about issues directly with Corel/Roxio.
